The Westway Dance Ensemble

The Westway Dance Ensemble (WDE) was formed in 2002 by Allyson Barker and is composed of students from the Barker Ballet School. Ensemble dancers are chosen for their talent and because they are willing to work hard and take time out of their busy lives to perform for the love of dance. The purpose of developing the Ensemble was for the students to gain performance experience while learning to adapt to unconventional dance spaces. The Ensemble performs at schools, assisted living facilities, Family Day at Children's Hospital in Boston and is available for community events. The high school dancers get community service credit for the performances.

The performance consists of a variety of dance forms from classical ballet to Flamenco. Students perform a typical ballet barre and center which is condensed into 4 minutes, 2 classical ballet pieces, (youth and advanced), a Middle Eastern piece, America the Beautiful and In the Style of Flamenco. The Ensemble ages range from 8 years old to high school. The performance is fully costumed and all the dances are original choreography by Allyson Barker.
